Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.

The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Narayana Children's Hospital provides extraordinary high-level care for children who require continuous monitoring. The unit has 10 beds for infants and children up 18 years of age suffering from a variety of conditions or recovering from surgery. The High Depencency Unit has another 10 beds for continued care of these children after the critically ill phase.

The PICU staff is experienced in treating the most life-threatening illnesses in children. But they not only focus on the disease--they focus on the child. Our staff meets the unique needs of your child and your family, and helps provide the support that's needed for healing to begin.

Each day, our critical care team treats children with problems such as:

• Respiratory failure due to asthma, bronchiolitis, or infection
• Intractable seizures
• Meningitis / Encephalitis
• Shock
• Kidney failure
• Life threatening Infections
• Poisoning
• Trauma / Accidents
• Organ transplant support services

PICU doctors also play a vital role in supporting children who require bone marrow transplantation, neurosurgery, complex pediatric surgery,chemotherapy, and other procedures.
