Department of anaesthesia at Narayana Hrudayalaya is a strong and vibrant faculty of 13-consultants. This professional group and provides anaesthetic care to varied group of population including complex pediatric cardiac surgery, implantation of left ventricular assist devices and liver transplantation. The practice of anaesthesia is no longer limited to the operating room. Anaesthesiologists are now routinely involved in monitoring, sedation and provision of general /regional anaesthesia outside the operating room for cardiac catheterization laboratory, computerized tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging. Anaesthesiologists have traditionally been pioneers in cardio pulmonary resuscitation and form integral members of resuscitation teams. In addition to provision of clinical services, the department is committed to teaching and education and is actively involved in training technicians, anaesthesiologists, and intensive care specialists. All the consultants are involved in performing and teaching intraoperative transesophageal echocardiography.

• Assessment of, consultation for, and preparation of patients for anaesthesia and surgery.
• Relief and prevention of pain during and following surgical, therapeutic, and diagnostic procedures.
• Monitoring and maintenance of normal physiology during the perioperative period and critically ill patients.
• Diagnosis and treating painful syndromes
• Clinical management and teaching of cardio-pulmonary resuscitation.
• Evaluating respiratory function and applying respiratory therapy.
• Teaching, supervising, and evaluating the performance of medical and paramedical personal involved in anaesthesia, respiratory case and critical care.
• Conducting research at the basic and clinical science levels to explosion and improved the care of patients in terms of physiologic function and drug response.
• Involvement in administration and participation in various activities of the hospital in terms of infection control, blood conservation, cost containment, cardiopulmonary resuscitation/training etc.
