Finally there is treatment for chronic pulmonary embolism
Surgical Pulmonary endarectomy

Mrs. S.B, aged 25 years …

She had been suffering from repeated episodes of respiratory distress. Eventually a diagnosis of chronic pulmonary embolism was made and she was told that there was no treatment for her dreadful condition. One day she landed at the coronary care unit of Rabindranath Tagore Internation Institute of Cardiac sciences, Kolkata with severe respiratory distress. After stabilization she was shifted to Narayana Hrudayalaya, Bangalore, where she went in and out of the coronary care unit many times while we were investigating the cause. Eventually here condition deteriorated and she was taken for surgical pulmonary thromboendartectomy.

She underwent a successful surgical Pulmonary Thromboendarterctomy by the cardiothoracic surgeons in Narayana Hrudayalaya and made a dramatic recovery from the operation.

Dear friends,

One of the last frontiers to conquer in the field of heart disease is the treatment for chronic pulmonary embolism. Till recently it was believed that chronic pulmonary embolism really had no treatment other than lung transplantation, and that surgical treatment had extremely poor outcome. Fortunately lots of developments have taken place in the strategy of surgical treatment for chronic pulmonary embolism. We now have standardized the technique to treat this dreadful condition.

We understand that the cost is an important issue in open heart surgeries, especially the complicated ones. We at Narayana Hrudayalaya have decided to offer surgical pulmonary thromboendarterectomy on 100 patients coming from lower socio-economic strata  at the cost price of Rs. 65,000/- which includes the entire expenses from the point of admission to point of discharge, or, if required, entirely free. So when you come across a patient who cannot afford the high cost of heart surgery kindly inform us and I am sure, by the grace of God, we should be in a position to help them.

With your support and blessings, Narayana Hrudayalaya has reached the position of performing 25 heart surgeries a day in 26 operation theatres, and we should be able to cross 50 heart surgeries a day in the near future. I would also like to take this opportunity to invite you to visit our centre when you are in Bangalore.

Dr. Devi Shetty,
Chairman,
Narayana Hrudayalaya
