Conducts free surgeries in association with Rotary International
Bangalore, June 29, 2009: Narayana Hrudayalaya, the world’s largest pediatric cardiac center, in association with Rotary International celebrated 107 successful charitable heart surgeries for under-privileged children in the last 11 months.
The children have been treated as part of the “Gift a Life” programme. Under this scheme, Narayana Hrudayalaya along with District 3190 of the club identifies under-privileged children with suspected heart ailment. The children undergo a detailed medical examination at Narayana Hrudayalaya and are given free cardiac surgery, if needed.
At the press conference, Dr. Devi Shetty, Chairman, Narayana Hrudayalaya, appealed, “If there is any child across the world in need of a heart surgery, please come to us. We do the largest number of heart surgeries in the world and today with the patronage received from institutions like Rotary we are in the position to waive off the fees of multiple heart surgeries in a day.”
Rotary International donates Rs. 30,000 for each heart surgery and Narayana Hrudayalaya with other philanthropic trusts and corporate houses bridge the financial gap needed to complete the operation. The hospital also provides for the post operative care and counseling for the outgoing patients.
Mr. U.B. Bhat, District Governor, Rotary International, added, “Every contributor receives a “Donor Thank You Recognition” certificate. It acknowledges the contribution made and includes the photograph of the child. This helps encouraging the contributor to facilitate the well-being of the child on a continuous basis.”
