Suvarna Arogya Chaitanya provides for the treatment
Bangalore May 21, 2009: Bringing hope to patients with heart ailments in Udupi district, the M S Ramaiah Narayana Hrudayalaya Heart Center (MSRNH) has begun the treatment for 20 children suffering with congenital heart diseases.
These children were a part of the screening camp for congenital heart ailments organised for 67 children in Udupi. They will receive free treatment at the centre through the Suvarna Arogya Chaitanya scheme, which is initiated and implemented by the National Health Rural Mission for children in government and government aided schools.
Dr. Vijay Singh, Medical Superintendent, MSRNH, said, “The screening camps that we continue to organise across the districts in Karnataka have revealed startling number of children that suffer from heart diseases. They choose to ignore this due to financial crunch. This has been the reason for us to initiate and advocate for But the Suvarna Arogya Chaitanya scheme, thus giving them the right to a healthy life.”
The partnership between M S Ramaiah and Narayana Hrudayalaya has seen a rise in the number of heart patients coming forward for treatment. This number has increased from 5 to 30 patients in a month. Most of these are pediatric cases and a sizeable number come through the Suvarna Arogya Chaitanya scheme.
M S Ramaiah Narayana Hrudayalaya has already screened more than 800 school children that fall under the scheme through the screening camps organized by the hospital in the districts of Belgaum, Hassan, Tumkur, Chitradurga and Kolar.
About 100 children under the scheme have undergone heart surgeries in last 4 months at M S Ramaiah Narayana Hrudayalaya and are now leading a healthy and normal life. The children enrolled in this scheme can also avail treatment at the hospital at subsidized rates.
