REPRODUCTIVE MEDICINE AND WOMENS HEALTH SERVICES
Reproductive Medicine and Women’s Health services have started at Narayana Hrudayalaya since September 2006. To date outpatient services have been offered to nearly 5000 patients and nearly 175 patients have been operated for obstetric and gynaecological problems from all over the country and abroad. Our outpatient services cover a wide spectrum of women’s health problems with very efficient multidisciplinary input all under one roof .We have been screening women for gynaecological and breast cancers, offering premarital, preconception, prenatal counselling. Antenatal care with counselling and screening for genetic problems, birth defects etc.
Our antenatal women get timely advice when needed during their pregnancy from various specialists like diabetologists, cardiologists,cardiac surgeons, radiologists, neurologists,neurosurgeons,. haematologist, genetics consultants, neonatologist, ophthalmologist, paediatric surgeons, nephrologists, urologist, medical and surgical gastroenterologists,intensivists, pulmonologist, so that they finally deliver a healthy baby safely. Our women also get good input from our dieticians and physiotherapists. We have been offering contraceptive counselling, urogynaecological services.
Subfertile couple and couple with recurrent miscarriages are investigated and counseled efficiently and the couple are guided towards the best line of management to enable parenthood. Women with reproductive endocrinological problems are worked up, counseled and treated. Menopausal women with various postmenopausal complaints are screened,counseled and treated to live better quality of life Gynaecological surgeries including laparoscopic surgeries are offered at our state of the art operating theatres. Women with problems like fibroid uterus can even choose to undergo conservative treatment procedures like Uterine Artery embolisation at our state of the art Cath Labs with skilled interventionists.
Women with very complicated cardiac problems like complicated cyanotic congenital heart disease, hypertropic cardiomyopathy, dialated cardiomyopathy, dissecting aneurysm of aorta, double valve replaced patients on anticoagulants, cor triatriatum, critical mitral stenosis, pulmonary hypertension, co arctation of aorta presenting with gynaecological and obstetric problems warranting interventional procedures during pregnancy or surgery have been operated upon with near zero morbidity and zero mortality at Narayana Hrudayalaya with efficient multidisciplinary input so far from Reproductive Medicine specialists, Cardiac Anaesthetists, Cardiologists, Cardiac Surgeons, and Intensivists.
Future Plans:
- Women and Childrens Hospital to expand our maternity services and fetal medicine services.
- Cancer hospital to give complete care to women with gynaec cancers
- Setting up a State of the art Embryology lab to help Subfertile couple realize their dream of parenthood.

Narayana Hrudayalaya in association with Mrs. Kiran Mazumdar of Biocon is in the process of launching one of World’s largest cancer hospitals with 1400 beds at Narayana Health City.
Dr Anuradha Kannan, trained under the able guidance of Dr Thankam Reshmi Varma during her Post doctoral Fellowship in Reproductive Medicine is a specialist with 12 gold medals and 4 cash awards to her credit. A university topper with overall distinction has presentations and publications in Reproductive Medicine and Womens Health topics. Her paper on Embryo Quality in Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome was chosen for the best paper prize of the Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of India.
She has experience of teaching both undergraduates and postgraduates and has guided students varied disciplines from Pitts Bilani in their off campus projects during her Post doctoral Fellowship in Reproductive Medicine. She is interested in teaching and research. Wishes to see subfertility treatments reachable even to the low income category of society.
