The Blood Bank is well equipped and operates performing on average 2500-3000 collections of blood from the donors per month. This state of the art unit works round the clock catering to the needs of all the hospitals at Narayana Hrudayalaya Health City as well as to the surrounding hospitals as and when required.
The Blood Bank supplies whole blood and blood components that include Whole blood, Whole blood ( irradiated), Red blood cells(RBC), RBCs Irradiated, RBC Leukocytes Reduced, Washed RBCs, Platelets, Platelets Irradiated, Platelet Leukocytes Reduced, Apheresis Platelets leukocytes reduced, Apheresis Platelets Irradiated, Apheresis Granulocytes, Apheresis Granulocytes Irradiated, Stem cell ( PBSC) apheresis, Cryoprecipitated AHF, Fresh Frozen Plasma ( FFP), Plasma Cryoprecipitate Reduced ( CCP). The state of art blood bank has 2 unique features, Pneumatic tube system and Irradiated blood products. Equipped with the cross-building Pneumatic tube system to transfer the request of blood and issue of blood/blood components from one building to another building, this pneumatic tube system enables the blood bank to deliver the blood and its components to the respective areas such as OT & Critical units within 42 seconds. This in turn improves the efficiency of the blood bank in case of emergency requirement of blood and helps to prevent complication associated with delayed supply of blood. The blood bank has the Blood Irradiation machine which is very useful in providing irradiated blood/blood components. These irradiated blood components are used for infants less than 1 month and to the chemotherapy patients. By irradiating blood, the white blood cells are removed from blood which helps to prevent transfusion reactions and graft versus host disease.
