India has world’s largest network of post offices covering major cities, small towns and villages. Good numbers of these post offices have very good connectivity including telephone connections, Internet and broadband. These days, post offices are used for various functions to support the people living in towns and villages.

As you are aware, in India heart disease has become virtually like an epidemic. Heart disease doesn’t spare the people living in the villages. Unfortunately most of them are not in a position to access high tech heart care available only in the cities. When these villagers develop chest pain, they do see various medical specialists; get basic investigation like ECG, Blood test, Echo-cardiography, and sometimes-even angiogram. However, all they have is a thick file of various medical documents and they do not know where to go next.

Mr.Abhay Singavi, Head of Telemedicine at Narayana Hrudayalaya, says that “Our aim is to link all the post offices to our hospital, so that heart patients living in small town and villages can go to any of the post offices and send their entire medical reports to us by scanning the medical reports and once the report reaches our hospital, our heart specialist will go through the entire file and give the opinion including our commitment to help them in case of financial difficulty. This opinion goes back to the concerned post office and this will be delivered to the patient who had sent the report. Narayana Hrudayalaya offers its services free”

All the District Head Post offices Karnataka (25 in number) have been connected to Narayana Hrudayalaya through internet and software applications. A patient with medical reports could always walk in any District head PO with his medical reports hand it over to the postal staff for uploading the documents may it be paper documents, ECG or an Angiogram. They would receive the analyzed reports within 24 hrs which would be handed over the counter or delivered to the doorstep of the patient by post. The services charges of the Postal Department vary from Rs.100 to Rs.125 depending on the number of documents and the post charges would be charged extra.
